Is a Clinical Trial Right for You?

The Retina Partners | Photodynamic Therapy, Intraocular Gases and Oil and Scleral Buckle

It is important to consider if a clinical trial is the right decision for you by consulting with your family and physician(s). If you are interested in participating in a clinical trial, please speak with one of our physicians at your next appointment or contact us at (877) 3-RETINA.

What are the benefits of participating in a clinical trial?

Joining a clinical trial can provide the following:

  • The opportunity to contribute to medical advancements.
  • The possibility of receiving the newest treatments available.
  • VIP treatment from our research staff – you will have a whole team dedicated specifically to you and your health!
  • A more detailed and comprehensive overview of your eye health.
  • As part of research, we often conduct more tests than in regular clinic such as in-depth images of your retina to ensure patient wellbeing.
  • We offer a complimentary ride service to get you to and from our office.

Do participants get paid for their participation? Are there any costs?

Participating in a clinical trial is of no cost to participants. In fact, most studies provide a stipend after each completed study visit.

What are the risks of participating in a study?

  • Your wellbeing is of utmost importance to our physicians. While clinical trials can offer a multitude of benefits, there are some possible risks associated that our doctors pay close attention to. These risks include:
  • The chance that participants will have a side effect or other health problem during the study. Your doctor will discuss any known side effects prior to your enrollment in a trial.
  • Participants may not receive the intervention being tested in the clinical trial. Instead, they may get the standard treatment or a placebo (no treatment at all) depending on the study.
  • The intervention being tested may not work or may not work better than the current standard of care.
  • Patient safety is our priority. Due to possible risks, study appointments may require more time than regular visits. This is because we take additional tests to gain a more detailed view of your health.

Can I stop participating in a study after enrolling?

Research participants can choose to leave a study at any time. Participation in clinical research is optional, and you can withdraw for any reason.
