Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is the cornerstone of diagnostics in a modern retina practice. At The Retina Partners, we are proud to offer the latest in OCT technology. Furthermore, fluorescein angiography (FA) can be used to look at the blood flow in the retina.
In addition to OCT and FA, optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that provides both structural and functional information. The advantage of OCT-A is that it is non-invasive with shorter acquisition times than a traditional fluorescein angiogram. It allows for a dynamic evaluation of the retina even in patients with allergies to the fluorescein dye used in fluorescein angiography. The uses for OCT-A have increased dramatically since its inception. We are happy to have this technology at our disposal at The Retina Partners.
OCT-A is rapid, painless and non-invasive. You will be seated comfortably and instructed to place your chin in a chin-rest on the machine. You will then be instructed to look at a target inside the machine while the images are obtained. The entire process takes only a few minutes. Your doctor will review the results with you in the examination room.
